Fibbers Public House Ad

We received our on campus magazine which has stories about people from our school and various coupons  in it. In one of the stories called the Avett Brothers there is an ad by Fibbers Public House restaurant. The add gives you their phone number, tells you where they are located, tells you how old you have to be to get in, and most importantly tells you Wednesday is their drink special day. The goal of the ad is to draw people to their restaurant by telling them there are penny drafts on Wednesdays. They figure if they make their drafts cheap people will come in and spend extra money on food and keep drinking their penny drafts at the same time. The ad has the restaurants name directly in the middle at the top so its easy to see while the Wednesday drink special is in the very center of the ad in a darker green color than the rest. This helps draw people to read what it is saying. I think Fibbers did a good job in making this ad because when I was flipping through the magazine it caught my attention very easily and I knew right away what the ad was for. The ad also tries to draw people in by saying there are 5 dollar burgers everyday and free pool everyday until 8pm. They put this right under the ad for the penny drafts because it is not as good of a deal as being able to gets drafts for pennies but it still will help draw in some business. It is not in a darker green like the big ad but still noticeable once the ad had drawn your attention.

Outline for Love, Internet Style

Thesis: I agree with David Brooks when he says online dating puts structure back into courtship and that internet relationships are just as powerful as relationships that begin face to face.

Introduction: 40 million people go onto various online dating sources each month. These websites are all different, some are for certain religious groups, some are for certain ethnicities, and others are for all people. The similarity between all of these websites is that majority of people that are using them are searching for love. Although people on these websites are searching for a life long partner extensive research shown in the new york post says that almost everyone using these dating websites lie about some aspect of their life. Through all of this still people find their lifelong partner using internet dating everyday. David Brooks believes internet dating is  a good thing for the American Society because it puts structure back into the dating scene. It slows down a process that in our century has been sped up so much that sex is an option on first dates, which was never heard of a few decades ago.

Paragraph 1: Websites, Statistics about internet dating,
Paragraph 2: dating process from older generations and online dating process compared to new age dating process
Paragraph 3: Online dating success and ability to find true love

Pros and Cons of Online Dating Website

I have chosen to write my essay on the Love, Internet Style essay from our book. I searched the effects of internet dating in google and one website I came to was http://www.articlesbase.com/relationships-articles/pros-and-cons-of-online-dating-262338.html. This website I decided would not be able to help me as research for my essay for a few reasons. The main reason is because after looking around the website for some time I found out that anyone can post an ad for people to read. I do not know anything about the person that posted this article so I have no way of knowing if he/she is certified to get credited information from. I also found this website to be more like a blogging website because people can choose to write comments on the post and like I said before anyone can create a post. Also the writer of this article did not state any facts it was all opinion based. This would not help a research paper because research is not based of someones beliefs it is based of proven facts. I would not use this article in my research although there was good information in the article that also came up in the essay written in our book, I can find the same information from a much more reliable source.

Love, Internet Style

I choose to do my final project essay on Love, Internet Style by David Brooks in Chapter 6. This essay argues for internet dating and how it brings back a process that was once shown in all dating relationships. I agree with what David Brooks is arguing, he says that for many generations Americans had a certain ritual that they followed when getting into relationships. The boy would ask the girl to a movie or a simple date where the boy would probably meet the father, then maybe after a few dates the boy would ask the girl to go steady. Now people do not take their time with relationships. Sex is a possibility on the first date which was unheard of over past decades. Brooks then argues how internet dating has changed that. He talks about how the two people that meet over the internet will exchange emails for a few weeks, then exchange phone calls for some time, then finally meet in person where the date will be simple like dinner or a movie. I agree with Brooks when he says that thanks to online dating people have started to get back into the same ritual as we have seen in years past. Online dating slows down the process that Americans have put into place now. Brooks argues that online relationships are at least as powerful as once that are met in person and that online relationships have a better chance of lasting than people that have sex on the first date.

compare and contrast essay

For my compare and contrast essay I have chosen to use The Blind Side. The Blind Side is a book and a movie about the struggles Michael Oher went through during his childhood. He is taken in by a nice family and later on becomes and NFL player. I will compare and contrast the different ways the book conveys it's message from the ways the movie conveys it's message. I personally think that the movie is more effective than the book in delivering the message due to the amount of emotion that the actors show. The book describes how the characters would act very vividly but to me it doesn't give the reader the same feeling watching the movie does. Seeing the actors put all of their emotion into how the characters would act, and live, and actually seeing images of what Michael Oher's life would have been like really grabs my attention more than reading the book does. They do have many similarities that I will also be able to discuss. These include the people in Michael Oher's life, major events that are talked about, and how Michael is portrayed.

Music Decoding

The song I choose to decode was let it burn by Usher. The main theme or meaning to the song is about Usher letting go of his wife. They went through a divorce and he sings about the steps he is taking to move on with his life. He starts by saying he knows he has to move on because its better to do it now then to hold onto her and hurt her in the end. He sings about how hard of a decision this is for him and he is speaking from his heart but there is nothing that can save their relationship. He continues to sing about how it is best for both of them to be apart even though it hurts. He explains how he wants the relationship to be over but does not want to see her with anyone else. Then his point of view changes and he starts talking about how twisted his heart is and how he can not move on from her. He knows he made a mistake but its too late to say that because he has pushed her away and she is gone. His heart will heart until she comes back to him but he realizes she will never come back so he is now the one that has to try and move on. He now has to tell himself that its best for himself to move on because nothing will change if they were back together. He has to "let it burn."

Social Networking

There are many different ways to communicate in today's World via online social media. I personally have a facebook account and use youtube on a regular basis. These are just two of the many different websites that seem to be the new form of communication online. We read a few different articles on twitter and the authors opinions on the website. I personally am not interested in tweeting my thoughts and feelings throughout the day. I have a lot of friends who use twitter and love it, but I can not see myself using the small amount of free time that I have in my day to tweet to the rest of the World about what I am doing. I have never blogged until this class so I mainly used facebook as my communication through social media. I used to get on facebook a lot more than I have recently, I just have not had the time to get on at a consistent basis like I used to. I choose to use facebook over twitter because I like having a profile with pictures and information section over the 140-character maximum tweet that twitter allows. I think that twitter and facebook will continue to succeed for a while where as myspace has started to fade away, at least for the people in my generation that I am friends with.
