Scene description essay

The place I have chosen to describe for my essay is the UNCW gym. I am very familiar with the gym having been in there many times. I will be able to describe the different colors of the gym such as the lines on the floor, the colors of the bleachers, the symbol at half court, and the padding on the walls behind the hoops. There are many different people that go to the gym there are fans that watch games, players, coaches, cheerleaders, dancers, and security. I will describe the hoops and the size of the basketball court. Also in the gym there are various banners hung around the ceiling that I will be able to describe. I may also choose to describe the arena that the gym is in. This would include what it looks like from an outside perspective as well as what it looks like from inside the arena but not in the stands. There are certain smells to the gym I will go into detail and describe. Pictures of the basketball players for both men and women hang on the wall near the doors of the gym. I will describe the sounds you would hear in the gym whether it be the fans booing or screaming, a ball bouncing, a whistle blowing, or the sound you hear when the ball goes through the net at the perfect angle. I plan to visit the gym while writing my paper so I have a better feel for what I am describing and I believe it will help my work be as descriptive as possible.

Review of Blog

Michael Jordan's Year in Baseball was the blog I read about online. I found it on espn.com under the true hoops basketball blog section. I believe this is a blog because it is by one author who states his opinions on Michael Jordan's choice to take a year off of basketball to play baseball. He also talks about Jordan's personal life and how he feels he was misunderstood during this era. Abbott the author of the article feels that Michael Jordan made this decision to switch from basketball to baseball to try and rediscover himself after the loss of his father who was murdered in his car while sleeping on the side of the road. Most people were upset with Michael Jordan for taking a year off from basketball to switch to baseball where he played in the minor leagues. Some people think that this year that Michael Jordan took off from basketball began the downfall of his career. Abbott has a special connection to Michael Jordan unlike most fans because Abbott endured professional baseball himself and he understands the amount of time, effort, and hard work Michael Jordan had to put in. Abbott sees this as Jordan being "Mr. Open" instead of him trying to fuel his own ego. He went around Birmingham and interviewed people and found that not one of the people he talked to had anything bad to say about Jordan. They all respected him and thought he was very well mannered. This looks to be more of a standard blog because it is all text with no pictures and at the bottom there is a place for comments. We looked at a a few blogs like this one during class which personally fit my description of a blog best.
